Day 1 - London to Wernigerode
We depart St Pancras International this morning by Eurostar (Standard Class) to Brussels, changing trains (First Class) for Cologne and Hanover. Our final leg of the journey takes us to Wernigerode for five nights at the HKK Hotel Wernigerode. (D)
Day 2 - Wernigerode and Brocken Railway
Today is a leisurely day, featuring free time to explore Wernigerode, a charming town with elaborate halftimbered houses and overlooked by a stunning castle. Wernigerode also has a charming Christmas Market in the market square in front of the town hall, just a short walk from our hotel. We also embark on a scenic rail journey to the summit of Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz, to the highest narrow gauge railway station in Germany. (B,D)
Day 3 - Quedlinburg Christmas Market
Our rail excursion takes us to Quedlinburg, one of Germany's best kept secrets, where we enjoy a guided walk. Within the Old Town is one of the best preserved collections of medieval buildings in Germany. Together with the Romanesque Collegiate Church it has UNESCO World Heritage status and is a lovely location in which to sample German Christmas market tradition. (B,D)
Days 4-5 - Wernigerode and Goslar
You are free on Day 4 to explore Wernigerode further or perhaps take a ride on the spectacular Harzquerbahn narrow gauge railway. On Day 5 our rail excursion is to Goslar, another UNESCO World Heritage site with over 1,500 half-timbered houses and a superb setting for one of the most charming Christmas Markets in northern Germany. Day 6 - Return to London
We transfer to Hanover to pick up our rail link to Cologne (First Class) and then to Brussels (First Class) for our Eurostar connection into St Pancras International (Standard Class). (B)
