Day 1: Journey to Luxembourg
We depart St Pancras International by Eurostar for Brussels. Here we join an InterCity service heading southwards through the beautiful Ardennes region of southern Belgium, past rolling hills and meandering rivers. On our arrival in Luxembourg, we transfer to the 4* Novotel Kirchberg, a superb modern hotel located in the city and close to the European institutions. This evening we have dinner in our hotel, but beforehand why not head in to the centre of old Luxembourg, an easy walk from our hotel, and discover the magical sights and smells of advent in the streets and squares of the town? Day 2:Trier Christmas Market
We transfer to the train station in time to join a regional service to Trier, just over the border in Germany, and situated on the banks of the Moselle river. The city of Trier claims to be Germany’s oldest and features stunning Roman architecture. The Porta Nigra, the largest Roman Gate north of the Alps, and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is not to be missed. Trier’s Christmas Market is held every year against the charming backdrop of medieval Hauptmarkt square and the impressive cathedral. Around 100 festively decorated little wooden huts offer a wide range of arts, crafts, toys and much more.Warm yourself up with a steaming mug of mulled wine or tea accompanied by some roasted chestnuts or a delicious bratwurst. On our return to Luxembourg, you are free to sample a local restaurant for dinner, or try some of the tasty regional specialities from the Christmas Markets, which incorporate many food stalls which are open well in to the evening.
