Day 1 - The journey to Liège
We depart St Pancras International on the Eurostar service to Brussels, travelling in First Class. On arrival in Brussels, we transfer to a local train to Liège, where we stay for four nights at the Hotel Mercure Liège Centre. (D)
Day 2 - Aachen Christmas Market
You are free to explore Liège, until late morning when we travel to Aachen by train, just a short ride across the German border. You have time to explore the 'Christmas City' in the streets around Aachen Town Hall, which was itself built on Charlemagne's former palace. As darkness falls, the bustling market will ensure everybody feels in the festive spirit! (B
Day 3 - Liège Christmas Market
On your doorstep is Belgium's largest Christmas village, with more than 180 stalls around the city's Place du Marché and Place Saint- Lambert. Truly a great place to sample local Belgian produce amidst a festive atmosphere, illuminations, decorations and wonderful Christmas aromas in 'the glowing city'. (B)
Day 4 - Valkenburg Christmas Markets
Our excursion today is by coach into the Netherlands to visit the picturesque town of Valkenburg, which boasts the oldest and largest subterranean Christmas Market in Europe (the Gemeentegrot or Town Cave). The labyrinth of passages holds many great ideas for seasonal gifts, and in the Roman part of the cave, visitors can enjoy a drink and listen to seasonal music. But that's not all, as the Velvet Cave (or Fluweelengrot) also boasts an array of interesting Christmas themes. (B,D)
Day 5 - The journey home
Our journey home begins by train to Brussels. Here we join the connecting Eurostar service to St Pancras International. (B)
